Rice County District Hospital, Lyons, KS; RCDH operates a 25-bed, Critical Access Hospital, two Rural Health Clinics located in Rice County (including Lyons and Sterling Medical Centers). The hospital also owns and operates Noble Place, a 15 unit independent living apartment complex. The current medical staff consists of four Family Medicine physicians, two Physician Assistants, two Advanced Practice Registered Nurses and one General Surgeon.

Rice County District Hospital is a recently remodeled facility that has state of the art diagnostic equipment and technology. It provides many services, including 24-hour emergency care, acute and intermediate care services, a family birthing center, a skilled nursing swing-bed program, a modern diagnostic laboratory, diagnostic imaging services, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, respiratory care, dietary consultation, diabetic education and cardiac rehabilitation. General surgery is provided at the hospital. RCHD offers numerous outpatient specialty clinics: Cardiac, Urology, Rheumatology, Podiatry and Surgery.

Town's doc will be "difficult to replace," but they're trying

Rice County Hospital and the community of Lyons, Kansas, have plenty to offer when it comes to attracting doctors.

Five years ago, the hospital underwent a $10.5 million remodel to bring its facilities up-to-date. A block away, the hospital-owned Lyons Medical Center has more than a dozen patient rooms and was built to house up to six doctors.

Although agriculture plays a big part of the economy in the county, business in diversified. There are five feedlots along with several large farming operations. Education employs the most number of people with five unified school districts and Sterling College.

JACAM Chemicals with a manufacturing plant between Sterling and Lyons and world headquarters in Sterling is a fast growing company serving the oil field industry and beyond.

Salt plays a major role in Rice county with two salt facilities. Central Salt, a Lyons mine is a mining company distributing rock salt and packaged salt. North American Salt, a subsidiary of Compass Minerals is a mechanical evaporation and packaging plant. There are many other thriving industries including Kanas Ethanol, KMW, Cal-Maine Foods, Lyons Manufacturing, and United Industries.
