Quality Caring

Convenient access to quality health care is important to everyone. Since its founding in 1919, Herington Municipal Hospital (HMH) has recognized this and shaped its services to meet the growing needs of southern Dickinson, western Morris and northern Marion counties (Population 7,500).

HMH is a municipally-owned critical access hospital with a rural health clinic, staffed by a family practice physician and three PA's. A private practice clinic, with a physician and an ARNP rounds out our medical staff. Nearly 90 employees team to provide a wide array of services ranging from expert emergency, surgical and rehabilitative care to dependable radiological and laboratory diagnostics. Visiting specialists in OB/GYN, urology, wound care, ophthalmology, nephrology, cardiology, pain management, surgery, oncology, endocrinology, and mental health visit weekly.

Services alone hardly tell the story. It's the individual, personalized care that lingers in the minds of patients. Rural Kansas living is a kinship like none other. Here, your health care team is made up of people you know. We're your neighbors, fellow church members and acquaintances through school. Quality care is redefined.

Our local Hospital makes valuable contributions to the Herington community and the surrounding area which they serve, providing care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to keep our community healthy, strong, and vibrant in addition to the economic anchor of being the 3rd largest employer in Herington.

Mission:

To provide care with compassion, dignity and respect applying the same diligence that we would demand for ourselves.

The Herington Municipal Hospital Foundation was activated in 2010 by Herington Municipal Hospital and hospital trustees. With a goal of obtaining private gift support for health care and to enhance medical services in Herington and the surrounding communities, the Foundation is able to provide channels by which donors may share their philanthropic objectives, such as, annual gift programs, special projects, endowments, and planned gifts.

Over the past three years, Foundation donors have contributed over $239,000. Needed improvements were made to the facility including replacement of the hot water heater, boiler and new air conditioning. Recent donations have purchased new EKG equipment, a new sterilizer and CR and PACS for Radiology.

Local fund raising events have included a Fall Fest, Spring Fling including a live auction, and a Murder Mystery Dinner Theater with the Spring, 2012 "Saturday Night Fever" event raising over $13,000. These are family events with good times for the community along with fund-raising.

Living in Herington, Kansas (Population 2,526; Dickinson County 19,332)

Herington is right in the middle of anywhere you might want to get away to, but its home when that's where you want to be. We are a small, yet progressive, family oriented town with lakes, golf, hunting, sports and a relaxing lifestyle. We are rich in Railroad history and currently a hub for the Union Pacific Railroad. Young and old and everyone in between enjoy our friendly Rural-American town.

School System - From the Superintendent of Herington Schools 09/29/11 "I've observed much growth in Herington the last four years. The construction of the railroad overpass successfully connected the East and West side of town. The railway had always split the town since the beginning. The updated airport runway, new roads in town, a new housing development, a new community building, a new athletic facility and a new Elementary School that opened in the fall of 2011, are significant examples of future focus. Even the recent exceptional performance of football, basketball, and track demonstrate great promise for Herington's future."
